Raanker is a new platform that let’s you rank…well…pretty much just about anything you can think of. Signing up for an account just takes a few seconds and you are immediately given a user name and password so you can rank the day away. Here is an idea of some of the topics that are being ranked, along with how many people have visited that rank.

People love to rank and vote on things, heck Digg is a great example of how people want to have their votes counted. So the concept behind Raanker is simple, create something Raank it and let others Raank it. At the bottom of the pages is a little section for easy sharing with friends via other social media platforms or just via a simple link.

I want to talk about the application behind Raanker. First off Raanker needs to improve their traffic more than significantly, but if they do, I think they have some potential. I’m not going to lay out a whole business model for them but think about Raanker from a marketers point of view, do you see the utility? Imagine if Raanker was able to scale to the point of getting thousands of Raanks for particular topics or products; from a marketers point of view this is pretty valuable information. If you know what people like and what they don’t like, then that is a step in the right direction, it’s almost like a free online focus group. Currently it appears as though the entire business model is based off of adsense ads, not surprisingly. If Raanker can really get significant traffic to their site then perhaps they can build a business model based on provided data.

If you were Raanker how would you monetize?
