Ice Cream DeliveryOkay, so typically the date is synonymous with bad  luck, witchcraft, and the devil. But, Uber is determined to make it synonymous with it being the day that dozens, if not hundreds, of their customers being delivered delicious ice cream. Why? Because July is also National Ice Cream month. No, it’s a real thing…go ahead, look it up…we’ll wait, but no guarantee that your ice cream won’t melt.

Typically known for being a service that transports people from place to place in style and with exceptional customer service, Uber is pretty creative in their promotions–and sometimes it doesn’t even involve transporting people–it usually involves bringing things to people. Why, during South by Southwest last year, they delivered BBQ sandwiches to folks through the app. It’s more a show about how awesome and service-oriented the company can be and it definitely has an impact–plus it doesn’t hurt that people are downloading the app and will continue to think about using it in the future. So now, in honor of National Ice Cream month, Uber will be delivering ice cream to those who order it through their app–for one day only!

For those of you here in San Francisco, you’re one of the cities that will be participating in this awesome promotion. Other cities include Boston, Chicago, New York City, Seattle, Toronto, and Washington, DC. And since it’s also summertime, I’m certain that ice cream is a welcome thing, especially with some sweltering heat some might be experiencing today.

So here’s the rules of the game:

Between the hours of noon and 6pm local time, just open up the Uber app on your mobile device and instead of summoning an Uber like you normally would, a nice button will appear with an ice cream cone icon. Tap on that and select your location. Once you do that, the Uber ice cream truck will show up  and deliver five ice creams right to you (don’t worry, if you want more ice cream, you can ask for more when it arrives). All you’re billed is $12 to the credit card on file with Uber for each bundle you order. Oh, and they’re even giving out free swag in the process.

Uber Ice Cream Delivery

While the ice cream choices will vary from city to city, what I can tell you is that right here in San Francisco, we have a good selection to choose from: Garden Creamery, Twisted Chill, Aunt Lali, Golden Ice Cream, and Molly Moo’s.

And Uber really wants to get you involved…if you are one of the lucky ones to get ice cream delivered, make sure that you also use the hashtag #OMGUBERICECREAM (all caps optional) because if you decide to get social, Uber wants to know what you’re posting. Specifically they want you to do video. The content that’s deemed the most favorite and with the most views will win an Uber weekend pass worth up to $200. Just how awesome is that! I’m sure someone will be uber-creative, right? Sorry, no pun intended.

So you scream, we scream…we all scream for ice cream! Happy Friday the 13th!
