The closer to mainstream Twitter gets, the more time wasting third-party apps will appear. I call that the Facebook model.
By watching my Twitter feed, I’ve come across three fairly pointless applications just today :
TweetValue: This site assesses the value of your Twitter ID. I have no idea how they figure this out or how it might ever be useful. According to the site, “The value is calculated with a Ph.D algoritm that is based on the public information available on your Twitter profile.” Uh, right. Anyway, JasonCalacanis is worth over $14000. Me? Not so much.

Twitemperature: It lets you know whether you’re “hot or cold on today’s topics of concern.” Huh? Oh, it continues. “f you’re talking about cool things and engaging in interesting conversations on Twitter, like every good member of the Twitter community should, your Twitemperature will, of course, increase. If you’re just navel gazing or being down right anti-social, then you’ll probably not have a very high twitemperature.” So, are you hot or cold? I’m feeling tired and anti-social today myself, so I was ice-cold.

MyTweetheart: Oh yes, you read that right. I don’t even know how much of the API was involved in this one. You provide your twitter User Name and the site will show your profile shot and your bio from your Twitter page. So, you know, make it a good bio. It’s not overly scientific though. I think you’re left to browse the listings on your own and make your own tweet-enabled match. This just puts you a the right (maybe) track. You can, of course, make a match with the fakebillclinton.

What Twitter Time Wasters have you come across? I know you’ve found them. They’re proliferating like bunnies.

Brian,
There’s no lack of useful/fun Twitter services. It’s part of what makes the Twitter ecosystem so interesting. That’s not to suggest they’re all useful or interesting.
