Party Buzz who recently received coverage for their consideration in the FBFund finals is an application I just discovered. It has changed the way I find tech parties on Facebook.

When Facebook received an interface overhaul a few months ago, there was a filter on the home news feed that allowed a user to only show events their friends have shown interest in attending. That was removed last month and since then I’ve tweaked my news feed to show more event RSVPs, but it’s still not perfect. Last week, I found Party Buzz [Crunchbase Profile].

Party Buzz only works well if you have a few socialite friends living in your area. I live in San Francisco and nearly 60% of my friends are located in The Bay Area, with 50% of those friends residing in tech. Party Buzz shows me the events listed on Facebook that my friends have RSVPed as either Attending or Maybe Attending. The application organizes and prioritizes events based on how many of my friends are attending. For example, the most popular party this week has 30 friends attending and the least popular has 1 attending.

Instead of scouring Bay Area event lists all day, install Party Buzz and check it once a week to find the hottest parties in your area. It’ll work outside of SF as well and it completely caters to your environment. Of course, if you’re well connected with friends in San Francisco but reside in Utah, the party list will be full of bay area events, but that’s how the app was designed.

Adam, you are definitely the Tech Party guy! I added the app to Facebook. I’m hoping there will be a similar app for the iPhone as well. Thanks for the post!
