In 2008, Jeremiah Owyang had a great idea to extend the conversation about Super Bowl ads from my living onto Twitter. Chris Heuer, Stephanie Agresta, Darryl Siry, Ben Metcalfe, Eric Gonzales, and I quickly supported the idea and set up a series of Twitter stations to kick things off. Josh Bernoff of Forrester analyzed 2,500 tweets and organized the results into an impressive ratings summary. That was the beginning of #superbowlads on Twitter.

This year, we will continue the tradition of rating the Super Bowl ads on Twitter, but with a small twist – one that hopefully makes Josh Bernoff’s life a little bit easier. Unfortunately Jeremiah and Shirley are returning from Hawaii, so I had a different idea to get us back into the game, while contributing and showcasing the results in real time.

This year, we’ve also rallied the support of Louis Gray, Guy Kawasaki, and Jesse Stay, founder of SocialToo. Since Twitter is rooted in public interaction and provides the ability to extend its functionality, I wanted to find a Twitter application that would allow us to not only monitor discussions and ratings related to #superbowlads, but also provide the ability to capture and present votes.

SocialToo is a suite of productivity solutions for Twitter and other social networks. It’s most notable and unique feature is SocialSurverys, providing the ability to create elegant polls that can be shared across multiple networks (provides for automatic distribution through Twitter) and tracked in one central location for analysis.

Every four years I’m amazed at how many people are not registered to vote. This landed in my inbox today, so I thought I’d share – doing my part to tell at least 5 of you to register. Hopefully you already are. If not, the deadline is most likely days away in your state. You can find out more from this helpful Google page.

Of course, it’s not that celebrities will really make you want to vote, but Sarah Silverman, Courtney Cox, and some others are kind of funny in this. It’s also almost 5 minutes long, so really, I hope you’re registered to vote.

You can visit the 5 friends MySpace page in case the video and this blog just don’t get along.

I’m sure we’ll be rocking the vote message a couple times here on bub.blicio.us before that day in November rolls around. It’s not that we don’t trust you, but we want you to spread the word to your friends and family.

Palm has partnered with Rivercave Productions to create a beautiful video meant to inspire those younger than us to vote this year. It’s a vivid reminder not to put things off for tomorrow and that they should be done today.

The short video, called “Citizen’s Cry,” is executive produced by Hooman Khalili, founder of Rivercame Productions, written by Adam Ottley, and directed by Corey Rosen, whose credits include “Iron Man,” “Superman Returns,” “Star Wars,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and “War of the Worlds.”

“Citizen’s Cry” is a passionate endeavor made possible by Palm, Inc. and the vision and foresight of their Vice President of PR, Lynn Fox.  Palm, Inc. funded this project and built the landing page.

I’m currently a bit stressed out that all this ruckus with Russia and Georgia is the precursor to World War III. (I should not wake up to NPR in the morning.) So I was pretty moved when I first saw “Citizen’s Cry” and I’ll share it with my younger siblings, all whom are now old enough to vote in their first presidential election.

No matter which candidate you support, spread the message to vote, and get the younger generation involved.

With SXSW ’08 a distant, but much beloved memory, it’s time to start focusing our attention on next year’s event.

It’d be nice if that meant weekend club hopping in hopes of discovering the next local act to break at SXSW ’09, but alas, aside from radio station promotions, or possibly knowing the booking agent’s uncle through a friend of your brother’s girlfriend, we don’t get to pick the music. We DO, however, get a say, albeit a small (30%) one, in which of the hundreds of expert panel submissions will nab one of the coveted presentation slots at the SXSW Interactive Festival!

SO, instead of complaining about the lack of compelling, thought-provoking speakers, get your ass online and VOTE! The deadline is August 29.

We kindly ask that in addition to voting for other stellar panels, you also consider voting for the sessions that include our very own bub.blicio.us and PR 2.0 publisher, Brian Solis.

A Discussion on the Pervasiveness of Streams

Additional Presenters: Jackie Peters, Greg Narain

The emergence of streams in our digital lives is, in many ways, aligning our thinking in a way that we are only subtly appreciating. Streams represent the end of top-down broadcast and the beginning of a confluence of information and communication exchange patterns that function multi dimensionally.

PR for Peanuts

Additional Presenters: Laura Beck, Porter Novelli and other PR all stars

More and more startups are bootstrapping their ventures, and managing the PR/marketing function themselves. Many of these companies eventually bring a PR firm, and/or a VP of Marketing onboard shortly after the closing of their A round, but nowadays it takes longer and longer for that funding to happen – if at all. Come hear 5 PR pros share their advice for startups – how to bootstrap your marketing efforts and build a solid foundation for later – whether you plan to hire an agency or not.

I had the opportunity to create my new little buddy, SportunateOne as part of the SporeVote campaign.

There’s a video of SportunateOne and his little sidekick online. To see them in action, click on “more spore” then on “random.” You’ll find me on that page somewhere. If you like it, make sure to cast your support by clicking “I like it!”
