I caught this on TechCrunch this morning, and it seemed worth a mention here. Infectious, which makes vinyl art for your vehicles, is now offering vinyl art for your laptop and iPhone.

I’m a huge fan of Shag’s art. I simply love the idea that I can get his art for my iPhone and laptop. There are a myriad of artists from which you can choose. The artists are paid for their work as well, so no need to feel guilty.
Infectious art is vinyl and, happily, not permanent. Apply a little heat and you can pull it right off without damaging your electronics. iPhone art is $9.99 and laptop pieces, which include a separate artist signature piece, are $29.99.
You know, my iPhone is starting to be a bit boring now that everyone has one. I think it’s time to spice it up.

On a slightly lighter note for a Friday afternoon, Smashing Magazine did a design study of 50 of the most popular blogs, pulled from Technorati’s Top Blogs list. The study called out 30 design problems designers have, and analyzed how popular blogs deal with these issues. This first part of the study looks at Layout and Typography (with subcategories in each). The conclusions thus far?
- large blogs require a multi-column layout solution (usually 3 columns suffice) (58%);
- layouts are usually centered (94%),
- layouts usually have a fixed width (px-based) (92%),
- the width of the fixed layout varies between 951 and 1000px (56%),
- 58% of the overall site layout is used to display the main content,
- CSS-layouts are used (90%),
- the background is light, the body text is dark (98%),
- the most usual (not necessarily most user-friendly) line length lies between 80 and 100 characters,
- Verdana, Lucida Grande, Arial and Georgia are used for body text (90%),
- the font size of body text varies between 12 and 14px (78%),
- Arial and Georgia are used for headlines (52%),
- headlines have the font size between 17 and 25px.
As Smashing Magazine points out, these are just conclusions drawn from these blogs, but it doesn’t necessarily make for good design. Check out the article, and let us know what you think in the Comments.
