We are all so distracted these days multi-tasking between our Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and dealing with all our responsibilities in life that sometimes we forget how to just be. Harmony Festival reminds you what its like to just take a deep breathe and enjoy the moment.

It was Harmony Festival’s 33rd. year of celebrating health, music, arts, ecology and spirituality for 3 activity-filled days June 10th-12th. Everyone who attends has an experience that makes them want to come to next year’s festival as there just is not enough time to enjoy it all. It has something for everyone – its like a Green Festival, Burning Man, X-Games all in one. There are workshops, action sports, over 300+ vendors, more than 100+ bands and speakers, a Steampunk Garage, The Sustainable Living Road show, Whole Foods Experience, a Silent Disco and more.

Michael Franti & Spearhead, set to play at 8:30 pm Friday evening at the main stage, made a surprise appearance in the tiny Goddess Grove at 4 pm. While their energetic, acoustic songs including Hey Hey Hey and the Sound of Sunshine were played on stage, Yoga Tree’s Janet Stone led a yoga session. A crowd spontaneously formed and followed Janet’s every move, forgetting anything they were planning to do other than follow her loving instructions to the lovely music in the background. I spotted Myles Weissleder with his daughter Summer at the Goddess Grove. I usually run into at his SF NewTech events in San Francisco. I asked him how the festival fit into his technology world and his response, “I try to avoid any techie angles while I”m at the Harmony Festival,” sums it up nicely how to be at this most special Festival.

It was wonderful to get out of the city and experience the 32nd. Annual Harmony Festival. Not only was the schedule filled with workshops in health, arts, ecology, spirituality, dancing and both local and Grammy-nominated musicians such as Lauren Hill, there were over 300 vendors to buy cool merchandise and eat mostly healthy food.

The Verizon Grafitti Maker

Techie stuff was all around the festival too. Many of the vendors banners included .com in their names. Verizon was the proud sponsor of the Eco Rally that featured a Skate Contest, Skate Jam Mini Ramp Contest, Best Trick Contest and more. In addition they had a huge vendor space to demo their  products and provided goodie bags that included sunglasses and glow-in-the-dark necklaces for the concerts. They also provided a Graffiti booth that enabled folks to create neon looking wallpaper for either one’s desktop or mobile phones. The Brand Ambassador Tech Lead, Owen Powell, said that Verizon chose to exhibit and sponsor as the demo is on the young side and for the strong green movement at the festival.

Fun with Technology

Don’t miss next year’s 33rd. Harmony Festival. You can connect with them on Facebook and Twitter. They also offer free admission for volunteering!

Adam Duritz of The Counting Crows

During CES, Intel & PC.com hosted a red carpet, celebrity-attended event at the popular LAX night club in Las Vegas to help us get “computer smart.” And, no true CES party would be complete without a performance from a major artist or group. When I heard that the event would be headlined by the Counting Crows, I was overwhelmingly surprised and ecstatic.

I’m a fan of the Crows and I was planning on seeing them over the Summer in support of their current CD Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings. However, between the travel and logistics in support of TechSet New York and TechSet Las Vegas, I unfortunately missed the concert. Intel just made my year; so much so, I’m shopping for an UMPC again :)

The concert was intimate, in comparison to the other major CES-related concerts taking place during the week. It was nice to be able to connect with everyone throughout the night.

As if the Counting Crows wasn’t enough to complete the evening, Intel and PC.com also recruited the one and only Brooke Burke to emcee the show. Brooke attended with her husband, David Charvet. Both were incredibly friendly and actually spent time talking with everyone. My new friend, LeVar Burton, was also in attendance and I have to say, he’s an incredible human being.

Frank Gruber, Sarah Austin, and I were able to make our way up front, which made for some spectacular photos.

I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story…
