Blogworld - TechSet Party - Natasha Wescoat, Brett Petersel, Ben Parr, Krystyl Baldwin, Francisco Dao, Jessica Berlin

You can’t really go to a major conference in the technology or social media industry without hearing about a really great party. Chances are that they’re usually run by the TechSet folks. You know these people…they’re Brian Solis and Steph Agresta and they’re going to be throwing it down again next week in Las Vegas at the 2010 edition of the BlogWorld & New Media Expo on opening night. As one of the official parties, it’s most likely going to be one of the hottest parties for bloggers, podcasters, social media professionals and friends on the Las Vegas Strip. Do you want to go? Just stop on by…the official fun begins at 8:30pm at the Aria Hotel in one of the coolest locations in the hotel: by the pool.

Yes, that’s right…TechSet has brought the pool back to the BlogWorld parties.

In what will surely go down as a great event, the fun doesn’t stop with the mingling of people and cool music being blasted throughout the night. Word on the street is that there are surprises in store as well, but no one really knows what they are. In any event, make sure you head on down to Aria Hotel on Thursday, October 14 and get ready to have some fun. Who knows, you might be mingling with the blogosphere’s best and brightest like David Armano, Ford’s Scott Monty, Chris Brogan, Mashable’s Brett Petersel and Karen Hartline, Whrrl’s very own Heather Meeker, Hootsuite’s Krystyl Baldwin, Mark Horvath, Vanessa Camones, Network Solutions’ Shashi Bellamkonda, Beth Kanter, Adrants’ Steve Hall, C.C. Chapman, Justin Levy and many more.

If you were at last year’s TechSet party at BlogWorld, you know that when Solis and Agresta throw a party, they go all out. With good beats and great showgirls posing for photos with guests, it was good times to be had by all.

For most of us micro-publishing tools such as Twitter, Seesmic and Brightkite are part of our daily lives, but micro-blogging, micro-publishing, micro-journalism, micro-pr or whatever you want to call it is still being defined and in its infancy. Some mainstream companies are beginning to use it as another avenue of communication and conversation, but it has not experienced widespread adoption among the masses or by most major companies, yet.

However, many believe that we will see it further evolve and gain in popularity. Funding may slow in 2009, but innovation certainly will not; and I’m sure 2009 will bring a host of new micro-publishing applications and tools.

At Blog World Expo last month there was a Citizen Journalism track that included a session titled “Microjournalism: Breaking News in 140 Words or Less,” where Laura Fitton, Robert Scoble and Doc Searls discussed the impact that micro-publishing, such as Twitter, has had and where it might be headed.

Micro-publishing apps that offer location and video capabilities are two areas that Scoble thinks could gain in popularity and adoption over the next year the way that Twitter has in the past two years. He uses a client called Twinkle on his iPhone, which lets him show his location in relation to other Twitter users who are within two, five or ten miles from his location.

“I can see a lot happening with location. I can see a lot happening with video in the next couple years, ” said Scoble. “Seesmic just came out with the ability to use your cell phone to have (video) conversations with people all over the world the way Twitter let’s you have conversations all over the world.”

For those of you who weren’t at Blog World Expo, or you were but missed this session, Bub.blicio.us Reporter Ashley Biever caught up with Scoble and Searls after their microjournalism session and talked to them about their thoughts on micro-publishing and where it might be headed. Check out our interview with them.

U.S. stocks have hit the lowest point in five years and fear-stricken investors are in a panic, but despite the downturn, there’s a new startup, still in private beta, aiming to breathe new life into the stock market by helping people understand it better. WeSeed is built around a community aimed to help consumers learn about various stocks in different market segments. If you love tech or fashion, WeSeed community members help you learn more about the companies and stocks in these industries.

“If you have a passion for technology, fashion or food, we’re going to help you turn that passion into understanding the stock market and getting real stock ideas,” said Jennifer Openshaw, president and co-founder of We Seed. “Everyone is scared of dealing with money issues, so what we’re trying to do at WeSeed is help you overcome it.”

WeSeed could bring a new crop of investors into the stock market, and given that stock prices have fallen, the upshot is that they are now cheap. People who are not scared off by the current market conditions and are looking to jump into the stock market for the first time can buy at low prices. Of course, prices could fall even lower.

If you’re interested in learning about new companies and stocks in the industries that you are passionate about, then WeSeed might be the community for you. And if you’re interested in being part of the beta test group, send an email to betatesters(at)weseed(dot)com with “BUB: Beta Tester” in the subject line. And if you do check it out, come back and let us know what you think.

Bub.blicio.us Reporter Ashley Biever caught up with Openshaw at Blog World Expo in Las Vegas last month to find out about the upcoming launch of WeSeed and how WeSeed is “the stock market for the rest of us.” Check out our interview with Openshaw.

Internet Geek Girl Stephanie Agresta interviews Blog World Expo’s Dave Cynkin at the Las Vegas TechSet party on September 19th, which took place at Bare, Mirage Hotel’s adult poolside bar & cabanas. Stephanie talks to Dave about the evolution of Blog World Expo, now in its second year. Dave is a co-producer of Blog World Expo along with his partners Rick Calvert and Libby Durfee.

Blog World Expo, an industry trade show and conference for all things blogging and new media, took place last month at the Las Vegas Convention Center where a roster of 248 speakers came together to educate, learn, share, converse and network with both seasoned and first-time bloggers, podcasters and new media enthusiasts. Our very own Brian Solis spoke on a few panels, as did Stephanie Agresta and Bub.blicio.us guest blogger Larry Chiang.

New to this year’s Blog World Expo was a pilot-program, the Citizen Journalism Workshop, which offered workshops on journalism writing, content and style; another about how to find good stories online by using investigative journalism techniques; and one on how to reduce your risk of a lawsuit.

In addition to the Citizen Journalism Workshop, there was a Citizen Journalism track that included a session on Microjournalism: Breaking News in 140 Words or Less, where Laura Fitton, Robert Scoble and Doc Searls discussed the impact that micro-publishing, such as Twitter, has had and where it might be headed. The Bub.blicio.us video crew caught up with Scoble and Searls after their session and we will post that interview, along with a few others, later this week and next, so stay tuned.

Despite a struggling economy, the companies and bloggers came out in force and it was a great conference; and the TechSet Las Vegas party was the perfect kick-off.

TechSet Las Vegas was produced by Stephanie Agresta and Brian Solis, and sponsored by Canvas on Demand, Empressr, (mt) Media Temple, MindTouch, ShareThis and Tagga. I want to thank all of them for a fabulous event and I look forward to covering the next one.
