Wednesday night brought back one of the new pillars of the sociable startup community at San Francisco’s Mighty. With hundreds of people in attendance, one can see that entrepreneurship is alive and well. STIRR featured three startups for their Founders Hacks II session, an intimate look at founders’ experiences in starting their companies. The three featured companies were Scott Rafer’s Lookery, Patrick Koppula’s Vadver, and James Courier’s OoogaLabs to give their play by play moves from their ‘Pages from the Unwritten Playbook’. There were also three new companies demonstrating their online gusto (more on that later).

One has to hand it to Sanford Barr (with co-founders Sean Ness and Dan Arkind) who put these amazing companies in a beautifully packaged one night event. With dedicated crew such as Melanie Sit make you feel at home as soon as you come in (just as I felt coming back from the East Coast earlier). This night also reinvigorated the call for the STIRR Pitch Lab organized by Christine Herron. The Pitch Lab helps entrepreneurs get relevant feedback about their investment pitch in a no-risk environment. For those that are ready to try out their ideas, this is the place where you want to test it.
The evening’s diamonds in the rough were Style Mob, JobScore, and Reactee. The darling of the evening for me had to be Style Mob. In keeping true to Web 2.0, their site focuses on letting users show their apparel, where they got it, and how much it cost them. The appeal is that users show off not only their style, but their individuality in their dress.

I spoke with Sanford late after the event and he thanked Sun, the official sponsor of the evening, for the support needed to bring Startups on the world stage. He was really thrilled seeing so many people attend from bloggers to venture capitalists come together and support the entire startup community. All the entrepreneurs in attendance are a testament to that observation.
