It was a beautiful day in Mountain View Friday and for those who did not want to wait in line for Apple’s iPhone, the staff at Simply Hired compound was the place to be for Lunch 2.0 (which also held a San Francisco event this month). Simply Hired is a vertical search engine company whose goal is to “make finding your next job a simple yet effective, enjoyable journey”. Simply Hired boasts 5 million jobs on their site, much more than Monster.com and Yahoo! HotJobs.

The event brought together different crowds in the tech start-up space, from entrepreneurs to angel investors. A large tent was set up for roughly 300 people to sit down and enjoy some great Indian food, including delicious naan, tasty chicken makhni and plenty of basmati rice. The festivities even had some gun play as innocent bystanders were squirted with Simply Hired schwag in the form of Squirt guns. As the schwag was distributed to the attendees, more and more people were quickly filling and pumping the triggers of their plastic pistols. It was a enjoyably raucous.

In addition, Simply Hired was looking for talented people to join their growing company. The CEO of Simply Hired, Gautam Godhwani, gave a small speech stating that job hunting will always be an issue throughout a person’s life. Creating a free account is easy to do and the pool of jobs seems much more tech-focused.
Simply Hired isn’t the only startup at 2513 Charleston Rd. I spoke with Sameer Patel from ZAPTXT, a free text service in the mobile space to keep track of RSS feeds in real time (think of it as a contextual Twitter on your mobile phone). I also spoke with Lee Diamond who is starting StartUpAgents.com, a service that will focus on finding qualified people specifically for start-up companies.
The main importance was to showcase that Simply Hired is serious about getting jobs for people that use their site. So, when their staff isn’t squirting bystanders for Lunch 2.0 events, they are definitely aiming to get people hired.
