SF Beta on Tuesday, May 20, had a solid turn out but was notably less packed than previous events. Perhaps the not-yet-ironic blue shirt and khaki event theme kept some attendees away as they scratched their heads as to why their outfit would be the theme of the event.
When I wrote about SF Beta in April, I commented on the efficacy of the CoolIris who walked around the bar giving demos on his laptop in the crowd.
The walking demo proved to be the most interesting highlight of the evening once again; only this time, a huge cardboard sword tucked into a bike bag that was the attention grabber.
Earlier in the day on Tuesday, Scott Beale at Laughing Squid, posted about the Cardboard Tube Fighting League tournament that took place on Sunday, May 25, in Corona Heights.
Robert Easley organizes the cardboard sword fighting event and is also vice president of the FindYum project, “a platform to help creative people thrive.” The site is an artist community that leverages new search technology to help creators of creative digital content sell their work and give them as large a percentage of sales as possible. Find Yum is expected to launch public beta in June and is part of the larger Human Creativity Project.

If Robert’s business cards were any indication of the crafty material FindYum is working with, I’d say it’s an excellent indicator.

As a wine lover, Tuesday’s demo highlight was Nirvino, a mobile service that brings wine recommendations to your iPhone or other web-enabled device.
The next time you’re standing cluelessly in front of a wall of wine, trying to quickly make a decision on the way to a dinner you’re already late for, you can type in the food pairing, wine varietal, or price range you’d like, and have the top-rated wine in that category pop-up. There’s also a social networking component that draws on your friend’s top recommendations.

Daniel Lieberman and others… The guy on the right is me, Steven Buelow. The guy in the middle is David Dobay. Both of Gogrid/Servepath – sponsors of the event.
Dang, I wish all my pictures looked this nice.
@Steven thanks for the compliment.
