Seesmic, touted as the Twitter for video, announced, or is set to announce, a whopping $6 million from “a-list investors.”

Valleywag is reporting the story, but it looks like they might have broken the embargo (they also ran the full press release). However, as they point out, the news was already shared with Wired in January, so I guess its open for public distribution and consumption.

When they say, “a-list,” they’re not kidding. In fact, in this case “a” can stand for “all star” as it represents the dream team of investors.

The investment is lead by Atomico – an investment group founded by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis.

Seesmic is attempting to evolve online conversations from text to video, creating the ability to converse through video streams and threads that either start or link to dialog. Mostly using webcams, the popular startup enables users to easily post videos and share through the Seesmic community, as well as through Twitter and YouTube.

I’ve been on board since the beginning and I have to say that it definitely sparks conversations. It’s very engaging in its own way and opens the door for new possibilities to communicate with video while linking to other forms of micromedia…seamlessly contributing to and extending your lifestream or workstream.
The company was founded by Loic Le Meur, founder of the largest European web event LeWeb3, and Internet Advisor to French President Sarkozy.
