words and pictures by Brian Solis

My friend Stephanie Agresta, InternetGeekGirl, was in town last week and like many, she is living the frantic, techset bi-coastal life between SF and New York.

Since several of us happened to be in town and free for an evening, we decided to host a last-minute Silicon Valley blogger get-together in Palo Alto.

Many thanks to Valleywag for giving it a shout out.

It turned out to be not only be an exceptional chance to catch up with good friends, but it also turned out to be an effective demonstration of highly concentrated networking in action. Hugh MacCleod of GapingVoid defined it that night as “random acts of opportunities.” Right place, right time to connect and make things happen.

Indeed.

It’s an incredible experience to sit and chat with Hugh. He did his fair share of connecting that evening.

Valerie Cunningham of podtech and Stephanie Agresta formed an alliance to bring the Bloghaus to SXSWi.

Daryl Siry of Tesla drove the much-discussed, and drooled over, electric sports car for us to get a first-hand glimpse.

Michael Arrington of TechCrunch popped by to discuss the state of the techsphere and also offered advice to those seeking it.

Gabe Rivera recruited new subscribers for his new Techmeme Firehose feed.

Buzz Bruggeman made sure we all use ActiveWords.

Joel Postman, Giovanni Rodriguez, Mike McGrath and I discussed the new world of marketing communications and the SocialMediaSphere.

Of course there were other discussions taking place, but overall, I guess my synopsis is that Silicon Valley and those who define its culture, are still keeping the Social Economy in check – contrary to insinuations that we’re simply driving the Bubble Economy.
