TechCrunch40 hosted a cocktail reception at the Palace last night to wrap up its well-attended and much discussed inaugural conference. It was packed with VCs, angels, entrepreneurs, bloggers, press, a rapper (MC Hammer), and a slew of Web 2.0 party crashers.

Just as the party was getting into a groove, a voice shouted out over the almost deafening conversations for everyone to file back into the room for the awards ceremony.

The event capped with a distribution of various prizes from sponsors, including the grand prize of $50,000.

As we waited for the oversized fake check, Michael and Jason took a moment to wrap up the conference, thank sponsors, chit chat about highlights and otherwise kill time.

The winner of that prize really came as no surprise. The chatter out in the foyer of the Palace was that Mint was a cinch to win and they were right.

Mint.com now has (the furthest thing from a mint) $50,000 to throw a Bubble 2.0-style victory party. I’m sure that the amount seems like a trivial figure to many of the well-funded “40″ that presented at the event.
