Fake Steve Jobs is Daniel Lyons of Forbes

It was an interesting ride, and for the most part, I really didn’t want to know who penned the Secret Diary of Steve Jobs and assumed the faux identity.  However, it was just a matter of time until tenacious digging would lead to the true identity.

The Fake Steve Jobs is none other than Forbers Senior Editor, Daniel Lyons.  He would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn’t for those meddling kids!

Brad Stone and John Markoff of The New York Times ran a detailed timeline and interview with Lyons.

As it turn out, Lyons is currently publishing a book written in the voice of the Fake Steve character, “Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs, a Parody.”

Brilliant!

Lyons ran his own post on the outting at FSJ, “Well it had to happen. Honestly I can’t believe it’s taken this long…Now you’ve ruined the mystery of Fake Steve, robbing thousands of people around the world of their sense of childlike wonder. Hope you feel good about yourself, you mangina.”

The unmasking, unfortunately, has its consequences.  While Lyons may continue writing as FSJ, it just won’t be the same. There was beauty in the mystery which allowed us to read along without prejudice. Imagination is a good thing Mr. Stone.

Oh well.

Update, new Fake Brad Stone blog debuts.
