At a reader’s request, I’m going to start reviewing some eVite alternatives. We all hate eVite – the need for our guests to register on their site, the ads, the emails with the lack of information. It’s time for something better, and there are a lot of alternatives out there.

The reader specifically asked for some information on mobaganda, so I’ll start with that. mobaganda is a no-frills alternative to eVite. One of the few things I like about eVite is the ability to add theme graphics to the invite (although the graphics were often lacking). Nifty graphics are not an option with mobaganda – it does one thing: inviting your friends electronically.

Here’s how simple it is:

  1. Click Start Now.
  2. Fill out the information (event name, time and date, location).
  3. An event page is created. Email that to all your friends.
  4. Your friends then go to the web page and select Will or Will Not Attend.

That’s it. No registration. No witty comments pressuring others to make witty comments. You can check the web page for current information or just follow the RSS feed for your event.

Because you’re emailing it yourself, there isn’t a limit on how many folks you can email – if you’re organizing a large event, you could easily drop the event URL into a mass emailing program. Emailing it yourself also decreases the chances that your invite is read as spam.

I wish there were some privacy options. Maybe I don’t want the world to accidentally find my party (or my address, if I’ve put that out there) on a web page.

For me, mobaganda isn’t really enough. I need more options in my invite program. For a lot of folks though, this no-frills approach to online invites will be perfect.
