Dealmaker Media Invades L.A.

Apparently the SoCal folks aren’t the only ones who see massive community building opportunities emerging in the region. Dealmaker Media is spreading its wings (and empire) and expanding down to Los Angeles, beginning in early 2008. Debbie and Co. have assembled a team of “ambassadors” (see below) to help lead the charge on the ground. (Disclaimer: Brian and I are both involved.)

From the website…
“L.A. Startups are rapidly emerging as the next disruptive force in tech, now ranking second in investment behind Silicon Valley… and extending far beyond the entertainment and media space…Our network of SoCal insiders and influencers are bringing Dealmaker Media to L.A., starting in 2008 with mixers, VC speed dating, startup labs and more.

Dealmaker Media produces conferences, roundtables, industry blogs, and research that connect CEOs, technology executives, investors, and press in Silicon Valley. The company is now expanding its unique formula to Southern California to cultivate networks, investments, and visibility into a rapidly evolving and important market for new tech.”

Additional founding participant companies include:

Clearstone Venture Partners, William Quigley, Managing Director
GRP Partners, Mark Suster, Partner
Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP, Hale Boggs, Partner
MTV Networks, Jeff Yap, EVP
Norwest Ventures, Tim Chang, Partner
Photobucket, Peter Pham, VP of Business Development
Userplane, Mike Jones, CEO (and VP at AOL)

What a way to ring, a ding, ding in the new year! If you want to get involved, visit the site and sign up to receive emails about what you can do to participate.

Personally, I’m pretty excited about this development. Debbie and I had a conversation many moons ago (it feels like, anyway) about the holes in the conference/networking/deal-making outlets in the area. Dealmaker is in a prime position to provide real value to the community by helping to bridge an apparent gap between the networking “social” circle that exists and the smaller exclusive “big boy” meet ups happening around town (more on that later.)

Good things are in store for 2008. Stay tuned…
