I am part of a group of community-driven technology evangelists seeking to showcase Southern California-based startups, Dealmaker Media LA. The first event was held last week at Michael Ovitz’s office in Santa Monica.
To call it a huge success would be an understatement. I’m sure LA correspondent, Nicole Jordan, will publish her account of the evening soon.
In the meantime, one of the highlights of the night was an impromptu preview of a new startup founded by Hollywood funnyman, and part of a modern day comedy dynasty, Damon Wayans.
I initially sat on the scoop since he was going to formally launch towards the end of February…however, Pete Cashmore, who was also with me at the event, ran the story on Mashable.

Ladies and gentleman, introducing WayOutTV.

The way I described it that night was, it’s like Will Ferril’s Funny or Die, but funny.
Stay tuned.

Oh, very sorry, didn’t realize you were holding it. Damon gave me a verbal green light last week, and I got a mail back from him this week giving the ok, so went ahead. Hope we’re cool – if not, feel free to kick my ass at the next party.
Oh, was the Funny or Die comparison yours? If so, I’d better credit – wasn’t sure if it was a WayOutTV talking point.
Brian, are you suggestion that Funny or Die isn’t….funny?!! Well, I agree for the most part but the “Landlord” episode with Will Farrell is hilarious. That said — we’re really excited about Damon’s company. I think the bigger picture is the notion of these celebs and writers trying to get a piece of the action that up until now has primarily been in Silicon Valley. Big media definitely wants in…the question is whether they’ll actually be able to do it. We’ll see
