Ouch! Watching this video of Guitar Hero featuring Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain singing along to Bon Jovi really, really hurts my soul and its got Cobain’s widow Courtney Love in an uproar too. The Guardian has much more on the story including the Twitter rant Love went on after Everett True posted this video on YouTube.

I have some fond memories of the first time I saw Nirvana at Iguana’s in Tijuana in the fall of 1991 back when the band just started to gain traction with the album Nevermind. I personally preferred Nirvana’s debut album Bleach but the album and the band were a big factor in the incredible musical revolution of the late-1980s and early-1990s.

After watching this horrendous video, I’m heading straight over to Pandora and cleanse my battered ears with some great Seattle Sub Pop sounds. Afghan Whigs, Tad or Mudhoney anyone?

Iguana’s was a great place to see a show. I liked it since it was 18+ and they had all sorts of balconies at different heights, a second floor and a good sized main floor. Saw a lot of great bands there: Nirvana, Mudhoney, Rollins Band, Tool, Bad Religion and more.

Nirvana was definitely not a polished band live but rough and raw. Remember Kurt opening up with a pirouette and calling it the “Mudhoney Shuffle” and then opening with a cover song of the Vaselines “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam” as I got off the first stage dive of the show! A lot of good energy at the show with songs like: Smells like teen spirit, Polly, Lithium, On a Plane, and Negative Creep.

I saw them later with Pearl Jam and The Red Hot Chili Peppers at a bigger venue but always really liked the small shows best.

Any other episodes happened during or after the show?
    Thanks Mattia

I was at this same show. It was pretty amazing. I lost a shoe, it was a rough walk to the border, but worth every little piece of glass.

It was a great show. I think I was at Mudhoney there that same week, those guys RAWK! Miss Iguana’s for sure, was a great place to see a show for sure. I even rode my motorcycle down there for Tool and Rollins Band and that was a trip crossing the border for sure!
