Twitter.com Changes Replies to Mentions

by Michelle Lentz on March 31, 2009

by Michelle Lentz

Twitter.com has updated the Replies tab to act more like the Replies in your third-party Twitter application. Oh, you’re using Twitter.com? Then you’ll like this.

The first thing to notice is that the tab no longer reads Replies, and instead is @UserName. Replies are now officially referred to as Mentions.

repliestab

It now functions differently as well. Previously, only true replies would display in the tab, such as:

@writetechnology We liked your last blog post!

Now, all mentions of your user name (thus the official change to “Mentions”) will display in the tab, such as:

I enjoyed meeting @writetechnology at @tk09.

The above tweet would show up in @ tab for both me and the TK09 account. Previously, that would have displayed in Twhirl, and I assume Tweetdeck, but not actually in the Replies tab on Twitter. This is a pretty cool change, allowing you to better track whenever your user name is mentioned.

V2.0 of The Conversation Prism Debuts Today

by Brian Solis on March 30, 2009

words and pictures by Brian Solis

The Conversation Prism by Brian Solis and Jesse Thomas

The Conversation Prism debuted in August 2008 to provide a visual representation of the true expansiveness of the Social Web and the conversations that define it. In this short time span, over one million people have crossed its path.

When Jesse Thomas of JESS3 and I initially mapped “the conversation,” we recognized that the act of categorizing social networks within a visually rich graphic would be momentary at best, demanding endless iterations in order to accurately document evolving and shifting online conversations as well as the communities that promote them.

My goal was to observe, analyze, dissect, and present the dynamics of conversations, how and where they transpired.

We’re proud to introduce version 2.0 of The Conversation Prism. We’re also excited to release a version that traverses the online realm into the real world with the release of a full color 18” x 24” poster to prominently display in the workplace, classroom, home office, or at events. Please visit www.theconversationprism.com for details, embed codes, and additional insights.

Halfmoon Bay Tweetup

by Brian Solis on March 30, 2009

words and pictures by Brian Solis

It was a beautiful day in Northern California. We all had more than enough work to lock us indoors for the remainder of the day, but we had a different idea.

Robert Scoble, Jeremiah Owyang and I opted instead, to host a last-minute Tweetup in at the Miramar in Halfmoon Bay. The Pacific Ocean served as the backdrop and great friends provided the ambiance. Overall, it was a wonderful way to spend the day.

I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story…

Austin Diggs Diggnation at SXSW

by Brian Solis on March 29, 2009

words and pictures by Brian Solis

And you thought the TechSet + Windows Mobile Rat Pack at the Belmont party was slammed…

Digg hosted a live episode of Diggnation at Stubbs BBQ during SXSW Interactive with thousands of the show’s most ardent fans in attendance. It was simply mind blowing. The cult-like phenomenon that served as the undercurrent for our Geek culture is now broaching pop status. Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht represent a new genre of celebrity and if you don’t believe me, just ask any one of Kevin Rose’s 375,000 friends on Twitter.

I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story…
